Tauranga Waterfront Playground uses custom playground fencing in Ghost Grey to help create a safer, more open play space in the city centre. Set along the harbour edge, the playground brings together culture, creativity and play as part of Tauranga City Council’s wider waterfront transformation. It gives families a place to pause, explore and enjoy the heart of the city. For a playground in such a visible public setting, the fencing had an important job to do. It needed to help keep children safer, guide movement and protect the play area. At the same time, it had to keep the playground open to the waterfront.

A Playground Designed for Connection

Tauranga Waterfront Playground is a destination public playground for families, children and visitors along the Tauranga city waterfront. The playground blends Māori culture, local heritage and nature-inspired play. Children can climb, balance, explore and move through the space in different ways. There is a sense of adventure to it, but it still feels considered. That balance is really important in a destination playground. Children want freedom to play and the parents and caregivers need to feel that the space has been thought through. Clear boundaries help with that. They show where the play area starts and finishes, without making the playground feel boxed in. In a busy waterfront location, that makes the space easier to use. It also helps adults keep a clearer eye on what is happening.

That makes it a practical choice for public projects where long-term maintenance matters, especially in a coastal environment where salt air accelerates wear on lesser materials. The system also uses 65x65mm posts for added strength. Custom gates and panels are available on request, and rakeable panels can be used on sloping sites, with raking up to 30 degrees.
